The company comprises rising stars of Istanbul’s growing contemporary dance scene, led by Turkish choreographer Korhan Basaran.
Korhan Basaran Company is a project-based, multi-disciplinary company under the artistic direction of dancer/choreographer Korhan Basaran. The company was established in Istanbul in 2008 with the evening-length piece The Loving. Based in New York from 2009–12, Basaran and dancers premiered works including Seeking Beauty; K’s Search for K; I am Korhan, this is my dance; RAu; and this is not a Hamburger at venues including Ailey Citigroup Theatre, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and the Cunningham Studio. Korhan Basaran returned to Turkey in 2013, where the company premiered Heva, a piece which relates to Rumi and Sufism.

Korhan Basaran holds a BA from Bilkent University’s theater department and an MBA in art management from Yeditepe University, and began his dance career with Binnaz Dorkip, choreographer of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet. He subsequently danced with Modern Dance Turkey. Basaran has taught contemporary dance in New York at Steps on Broadway, Peridance, and DNA. His work has been commissioned by Nimbus Dance Works, MMDC, Akbank Sanat of Istanbul, and Project 44.
